Which kit do I need?

  • Custom, up to 250mm: the 810PS is built around your lens. We make and calibrate the cone and helicoid for it, so enter the lens details when you order. Ships in 1-3 weeks. Longer than 250mm? Contact us about a custom cone.
  • Film: film holders are not included; the 810PS takes standard 8x10 holders.
  • Want a second lens or a pinhole? Extra cones and custom pinhole cones are on the accessories page.

An 8x10 camera you can shoot like a point-and-shoot. Focus by the engraved scale, insert the film holder and shoot. We build the cone and helicoid for your lens, and with a 115-121mm wide angle it is close to an 8x10 pancake camera. Designed and made in Canada.

8x10 with almost no setup

The 810PS skips the bellows, rails and standards of a view camera. There's nothing to set up apart from focusing and inserting the film holder, and the composite body damps vibration better than most field and studio cameras.

Focus by scale, or on the ground glass

The helicoid is engraved with distance, depth of field and hyperfocal scales, calibrated for your lens, so you can preset the distance and zone focus without the ground glass. On a tripod, focus and framing can be checked on the ground glass.

Choosing a lens

115mm to 121mm wide angles make the 810PS a very compact 8x10. On paper most of them fall just short of full coverage, by about 5mm in the corners, which rarely shows. 180mm, 210mm and 240mm lenses are accessible longer choices, and the Rodenstock Sironar-N and Schneider Symmar 240mm cover the format with room to spare. For a 300mm or anything else over 250mm, contact us about a custom cone.

Lens and pinhole on one camera

Lens and pinhole cones swap quickly, and with a little practice you can take a lens image and a pinhole image within a minute.

Handling

There are tripod mounts for both portrait and landscape, bubble levels for both orientations and three metal cold shoes on top. The included viewfinder is a simple non-optical finder. The vertical hand grip add-on will hold the 810PS, but at 8x10 most people will find a tripod more practical.

Built to tight tolerances

Every camera is individually inspected and ships with a QC certificate showing its own measurements, meeting or beating the ANSI standard for its format. The body is printed in glass fibre reinforced ABS, which is stable and damps vibration.

  • United States: duties and import fees are included, so there's nothing to pay on delivery.
  • EU, UK and other countries: VAT and import fees are paid on delivery. Contact us if you'd like duties-paid (DDP) shipping; availability varies by country.
  • 30-day returns on stock items. Custom kits are built for your lens and are final sale. Every camera has a 1-year warranty.
